South Waikato Cultural Activator

Waikato artist and curator Leafa Wilson is taking on the role which is part of a pilot programme to work with local communities to tell the district’s stories, build residents’ creative skills, and seek creative opportunities.

Leafa will work with organisations and individuals across Tokoroa, Putāruru and Tīrau to deliver projects to increase individual practitioners’ confidence, as well as access and participation in relevant and extraordinary cultural activities.

Creativity

A movement and campaign to bring the community together through the accessible power of creativity.

Waikato artists are championing the fight for unity through works of art that speak powerful messages of hurt, sorrow, hope and strength. The creative works aim to spark crucial conversations against racism and fuel the narrative for kotahitanga.

The campaign led to a collaboration with School Kit, sparking the conversation in classrooms Waikato wide with hands-on arts activity.
