South Waikato Cultural Activator
Meet Leafa Wilson, our Cultural Activator based in south Waikato.
Fresh from the world of art curation, Leafa joins Creative Waikato with a zillion ideas about how to fulfil her role as South Waikato Cultural Activator, a Manatū Taonga, Ministry for Culture and Heritage, pilot programme. It helps that Leafa was born and raised in Tokoroa, so she has a hearty love for the area. She is set to be a creative force, whipping up art hurricanes in Tīrau, Putāruru, and Tokoroa. Leafa will be a “town two-timer”, living part-time in both Tokoroa and Kirikiriroa for the duration of her role.
Leafa (who also goes by the names Janice and Olga) was curator of art at Waikato Museum Te Whare Taonga o Waikato for 17 years. Her multimedia performance art practice spans over 30 years and a Master of Philosophy enables her to enter manifold people-spaces and worldviews. She and her husband Craig have six adult kids and four mokopuna.
